Sharing the Love in the Season of Gratitude
Thanksgiving is just around the corner and most families are already prepping their grand spread for the occasion of giving thanks for all of the blessings that they have so far received.
Unfortunately, this is not the situation for all; there are still many who are unlikely to have a festive dinner to share with their families due to financial issues.
In Sacramento County, studies reveal that 1 in 4 children live in poverty — half of the county’s population lives in households with no steady supply of food for kids. This means a lot of young people do not meet their dietary needs because there’s not enough food at home for balanced meals. They often go to school hungry and, therefore, completely unprepared to learn. And because they’re often famished during the crucial development years, they are more prone to health issues as grown-ups.
It’s clearly a sad situation, so, in order to make the holiday more cheerful even for those who are going through economically difficult times. Our staff at Surfside Kids Dental, we have decided to take action. The Surfside Kids Dental Canned Food Drive runs from now until December 9th 2016. Drop off locations are as follows:
Laguna Creek Town Center
5010 Laguna Blvd. Suite 101
Elk Grove, CA 95758
2615 Riverside Blvd.
Sacramento, CA 95818
Our Pediatric Dental offices have put together this event to share blessings and love to those in need by getting the community involved. We are welcoming donations that will be given to River City Food Bank, an organization committed to alleviating the conditions of the poor within the Sacramento area.
Surfside Kids Dental has already released a wish list on our Facebook page that people who wish to donate can refer to.
The wish list includes the following items:
- Peanut butter
- Mac & cheese
- Ramen & canned soups
- Baby food
- Milk-based formula
- Bottled water
- 100% fruit juice
- Healthy snack bars
- Individual packages of nuts, trail mix, etc.
So, during this season of abundant blessings, how about letting your own blessings spill over to those who are lacking in life? If you feel a strong sense of community spirit and you have this desire to help others, join this food drive and create a positive impact on the lives of Sacramento’s less fortunate population.
The food drive will run from November 7th to the 18th. For more information on the food drive, visit Surfside Kids Dental’s Facebook page today. Be sure to share, share share across your social channels to help us spread the word.
